J'ai craqué, je l'ai commandé aussi.

Disposant d'un peu de temps en avril prochain, Ian Gillan a confié qu'il serait prêt à travailler sur de nouveaux titres en compagnie de Tony Iommi, sans doute sous l'appellation Who Cares :

On December 7th, 1988, an earthquake hit the Spitak region of Armenia registering 6.9 on the Richter Scale. The response from the rock sphere would be Rock Aid Armenia, who – amongst other things – re-recorded DEEP PURPLE’s ‘Smoke On The Water’ with an all-star cast, including Deep Purple frontman Ian Gillan as well as BLACK SABBATH guitarist Tony Iommi.

“I suppose it all started about 20 years ago when I was touring the Soviet Union with my band – I remember the tour quite well,” confirms Ian, discussing the WhoCares project. “It was the second tour in fact of the Soviet Union; we took in Moscow, St. Petersburg, we went through the Ukraine and Georgia, through the Caucasus Mountains, Grozny, Chechnya, and ended up in Makhachkala in Dagestan. We then went down to Armenia and did three shows there at the Sports Arena in Yerevan, and I remember flying in actually. I was pretty sick at the time. We flew in over Mount Ararat and I was looking for Noah’s ark on top of this mountain (laughs), and during our time there I went down to Spitak which was the epicentre of the earthquake. It had happened a year before, and people were still wandering around in a daze. Not much was known about it. You get an earthquake now in Haiti or a tsunami or whatever and it’s on TV all over the world within seconds, but not then. I remember visiting Spitak as I said and I was being shown around by the man, and amongst all the other images that prompted me to write a song called ‘Pictures Of Hell’ (from 1991’s Toolbox) he told me that there was no music at all, that there hadn’t been any music for a year. No music on the radio, no music in the churches and even the birds weren’t singing. I said ‘Well, maybe when you’re ready we can do something about that’.”

Sortie d'un album le 22 juin qui comprend les deux titres du single, une jam inédite en studio intitulée Dick Pimple (année ?) , une chanson inédite de Repo Depo (un groupe que Ian Gillan forma avant la reformation du Pourpre en 1984), deux inédits de Glenn Hughes et de Tony Iommi, des "collaborations obscures", des B sides captés sur des singles et des titres live captés par la radio.

Deep Purple`s Ian Gillan and Black Sabbath's Tony Iommi took everybody by surprise in 2011 by releasing a charity single: Out Of My Mind, renewing the collaboration that led the pair recording an album in 1984 Born Again under the moniker Black Sabbath. For the occasion, the two rock legends called a few friends, asking for some “help”. None other than Jason Newsted (ex-Metallica), Jon Lord (ex-Deep Purple) and Nicko McBrain (Iron Maiden) completed the supergroup.

The single was a joyful and inspired moment. The spark to bring Iommi and Gillan in a studio, together again was to finance the rebuilding of a music school in Armenia they had visited together on various occasions in past years. Far from being a spectacular charity project, WhoCares was a nice gesture, done with class, from two musicians with nothing to prove, willing to support music, where music is considered a luxury.

Gillan comments: “As I said once in the song 'Razzle Dazzle' (Deep Purple's Bananas)… ...’it’s a real fine line between an orgy of destruction and a wonderful time’… The destruction of conformity in this case: Some of these pieces never really fitted into their contemporary program and got side-lined or forgotten, and some of the album tracks never had much exposure. As the track-listing for this album came together I noticed many of the titles had character similarities; a combination of freshness as they finally felt the sun on their backs and rebellion in a ‘yeah told you so’ kind of way. And that adds up to a wonderful time. And that adds up to more money for the music school we are building in Armenia. And what about WhoCares… this ad hoc benefit band put together by Tony Iommi and myself on a flight home from Yerevan, where we’d been deeply humbled by the honours and expectations bestowed upon us. Well that’s it really, in a nutshell, so to speak, what more can I say; it’s all there in the music.”

WhoCares’ tracklist is being finalized at this very moment. Among the tracks: the two original WhoCares’ songs, Deep Purple’s unreleased studio jam 'Dick Pimple', a song from Repo Depo (a band Ian Gillan formed before the Deep Purple reunion which never released any song official before this CD), two unreleased songs from Tony Iommi featuring Glenn Hughes, obscure collaborations, B-sides lost on 7” vinyl, exclusive live versions recorded live on radio.

WhoCares will be released on June 22nd on earMUSIC.

Et vu que j'ai déjà l'EP de WhoCares, personnellement ça ne m'apporte rien de nouveau.
C'est un truc genre fourre-tout sans queue ni tête dont le but artistique m'échappe un peu ...

En fait de but artistique, il est plutôt mercantil... j'ai aussi l'EP de WhoCares et je ne vois pas l'intérêt d'acheter cet album. C'est vrai ils auraient au moins pu faire l'effort de rajouter des titres inédits !

Petit pincement pour celui qui n'est plus mais qui restera dans nos coeurs !
