GLYDER

Leur premier éponyme paru l'année dernière avait l' effet d' une petite bombe et leur avait valu la première partie de Thunder à la Boule Noire , le 5 mars dernier . Le groupe y avait délivré une magnifique prestation à tendance"lizzienne" . Playground For Life , tel est le nom du second opus qui vient de sortir . Celui-ci poursuit dans la direction amorcée par le premier effort . Du hard rock de qualité à tonalité lizzienne .

Excellent Groupe.

Le nouvel album fera partie de mes prochaines acquisitions, mais je surveille le marché de l'occasion pour trouver l'édition cd+dvd.

Moi j'les aime bien... je les ai vus à Paris en première partie de
Thunder à la Boule Noire en février....

Hi All,

It's been a busy week getting everything ready for the new EP weather the storm. We are delighted with the way it turned out. The EP is five tracks that had no real home so we decided to put them in their place!! We also decided that with some hectic touring coming up we it would be nice to have something new for our supporters to have. Also the shelf life of an album these days has seriously diminished with all the illegal downloading and people soon forget about you unless you keep in the spotlight. It was recorded in Orion studios in The Glenn of Imall not too far from our home here in Ballyknockan deep in the heart of the Wicklow mountains. It was engineered by Kevin Sheahan the studio owner and was recorded in four days. Peter Brander from mediasound in Denmark mixed it and he did a wonderful job. Peter is a guitarist and singer himself and has worked with many top Danish acts. We recorded our live album in his studio adjacent to Amager Bio venue in Copenhagen earlier this year. We hope to mix and release it next year sometime. If you listen to the preview that's uploaded here you can here the keyboards are very strong. John "fist" Mulrooney provided them and does and amazing solo on the title track. John has been a session player for many years and even did a gig with U2!, when the got the freedom of the city. He has also worked with many well know Irish bands and musicians and it was a pleasure for us to work with him. John will be joining Glyder for some live dates and I will let you know soon which ones. He will also be working with us on the next album.

Mark Wilkinson is putting the finishing touched to the artwork and I hope to have it all ready for production tomorrow. Mark has been great and has helped us in so many ways over the past year. We discussed the changing faces of the music industry the other day and after the conversation I felt a sense of relief. I feel a new confidence with Glyder. I feel we are entering a new stage of our career. I have always been concerned what the critics think what the audience might think but now I don't see that as the important part of being an artist. The important thing is to be proud of what you have done and achieved and I feel that strongly about this EP. I know some of the tunes are old and one is a cover but there is a raw passion there, a new confidence. We produced this ourselves and I honestly think the production is great especially as it's the first time we have done it alone. Mark says he is blown away by the material and he feels if there was justice we would be getting the recognition. To be honest I'm very happy to be making music touring and developing. I think our time will come and until then im going to try enjoy this trip.

To give some background to the material and Glyder and to fully understand I wrote this following paragraph:

Long before Glyder began we played in a covers outfit. To this day this band continues to play around the bars in Ireland between tours with Glyder. This has helped us finance recording and promoting Glyder and get out touring. It is a very uncertain time in the music industry and the big cash advances of the 70' and 80's are long gone. We have no shame in admitting this is how we survive infact we are very proud of it. It might be unconventional and unfashionable but we never cared for fashion and it has given us the chance to develop together as musicians and explore lots of different styles of music. We love to play rock music in all forms. When we jam we could be belting out Thin Lizzy or Iron Maiden covers and then we might mellow out and play covers by The Band or the Beatles. This EP gives a flavour of what we are all about as the styles of the tunes cover our broader influences. Artistic freedom is important for any band and that is what Glyder is all about. I hope you will enjoy the EP and as always we appreciate your feedback.

"Brewin up a storm" (Wall/Wall)

This song was a hit in 1990 for another Irish band called "The Stunning". It is a great song that we have played as a cover's band for years, around the pubs.

"Love never dies" (Kinane/Mc Evoy)

This is a song that has been around for a while now, but didn't quite fit in with the albums. It was inspired by Bram Stokers Dracula. I collaborated on this with a with our good friend bass player, Jerry McEvoy (no, not Rory's bass player!!!)

"Weather the storm" (Kinane/Cullen)

Demoed for the first album, but not quiet fitting in with the vibe of selected songs by producer Chris Tsangarides, "Weather the storm" has been a drift for a while. The song is simply about us, as a band, and the journey we are on. We all love this track and play it live in a headline set. Who might that ghostly sailor be? A vagabond?

"Fill your head with rock" (Cullen/Kinane/Fisher/Ryan)

The title is the official slogan of "Sweden Rock Festival" and the song was written specifically for a CD to be given out at "Sweden Rock Festival" 2008. 15 bands also recorded a song of the same title.

"Lay Down" (Cullen)

A song Tony wrote after the Rory Gallagher festival in Ballyshannon in 2004. Rory influences are certainly there!

Le EP est magnifique... Je les ai râtés au Raismesfest... Ils faisaient la 1ère partie du BOC à Leffrinckouke (near Dunkerque)... Si ça pouvait être le cas pour l'Olympia en avril prochain...

S'ils pouvaient tourner près de chez moi, ce serait parfait....

Il y'a une salle qui accueille des groupes (pas des petits) qui font de la musique dite nouvelle, alors pourquoi pas....

GLYDER devrait sortir leur nouvel album fin avril via Steamhammer/SPV. L'album s'appelle Yesterday, Today And Tomorrow et possède une fort belle pochette :

Très bon groupe. Raté de peu au Raismesfest il y a deux ans. Paraît que c'étai pas le top en live. JS tu racontes?

Sont plus en contrat avec Bad Reputation (au moins pour la distrib')?

Je raconte quoi ...
Il faisait un temps pourri, il y avait de la boue, il faisait froid et la bière était trop fraiche.
Heureusement, j'étais venu avec mes habits de montagnard.
J'avais le même problème qu'un humoriste avec sa capuche;
Donc je n'ai pas vu grand chose. Le son était bon et le concert avait l'air sympa même si c'était mou du genou. pas la pêche ce jour là.
Le public n'en a pas tenu rigueur vu les conditions climatiques.
Sinon le fest est sympa (dommage qu'il ne soit pas plus au sud car 4°c le matin au réveil dans le camping, cela calme ...).
