Voici mon Dieu ultime de la guitare!!!! ;)
Né en 1944, il débute sa carrière musicale avec the Tridents (dont on peut entendre trois titres sur le superbe Beckology) puis sur les conseils de Page, il remplace Clapton au sein des Yardbirds.Avec son arrivée, le son du groupe explose et Beck se lance dans une multitudes d'effets sonores guitaristiques bien avant l'arrivée d'Hendrix (le feedback sur Shapes of Things en 1965..) et sort deux albums monstrueux (Having a Rave up et Roger the engeneer) avec le groupe, posant les bases de laguitare rock et de ce qui allait devenir le hard rock!
Il se lance dans une carrière solo dès 1968 et sort cette année là et l'année suivante deux albums ultimes (fondateurs du hard?): Truth et Beck-Ola avec comme chanteur un certain Rod Stewart!!
Gravement bléssé dans un accident de voiture (sa deuxième passion), il forme en 1971 un deuxième Jeff Beck Group avec un nouveau personnel (dont Cozy Powell, Bob tench et Max Middleton) et une nouvelle orientation musicale inspiré par la motown!.Le groupe sort aussi deux excellents albums : Rough and Ready et Jeff Beck Group.
Mais lassé de cette direction, il forme alors un super power trio avec ce qui est considéré à l'époque comme la meilleure rythmique du monde: Bogert et Appice.Le trio donne une musique batarde mais superbe, croisement entre la soul blanche (apport de Beck) et le boogie Rock (apport de Bogert et Appice).Un studio, très bon, et un live, extraterrestre lui, seront les temoignages de cette période!!
A nouveau lassé, il casse le groupe en avril 74 et se tourne vers une musique plus technique et flamboyante, influencée par le Mahavishnu Orchestra, et qui sera peut etre le sommet discographique et commercial du génial anglais:
Blow by Blow et Wired sont encore considérés à l'heure actuelle comme des chefs d'oeuvre de la musique instrumentale!!.
Il sort aussi un superbe live with the Jan Hammer group (1977) et sort un nouveau studio très bon: There and Back (1980)
Les années 80's sont surtout financières pour Beck qui joue les sessions man (Tina Turner, Mick Jagger, Box of Frogs..) et sort un album médiocre: Flash (sorte de techno rock avec un Nile Rodgers peu inspiré).
Son retour en forme se fait avec Guitar Shop (avec Bozzio et Hymas), superbe album instrumental qui lui vaut le grammy de meilleur album instrumental!
Au début des nineties, il sort un album en hommage à un de ses maitres : Cliff Gallup avec Crazy legs et réalisé une petite BOF Frankie's house (1992-93).
Après une longue pose de 5 ans il revient pour une trilogie axée sur le techno-rock!!
Who else!(1999), You had it coming (2001) et Jeff (2003) sont trois fantastiques albums du maitre!
Le dernier Jeff en 2003 est une véritable bombe d'une grande richesse et diversité musicales!

Beck est à l'heure actuelle le guitariste le plus versatile de l'histoire de la guitare (jazz rock, blues, techno rock, rockabilly, soul...) et celui qui avec Hendrix, Page et Clapton a eu une influence considérable sur tous les guitaristes suivants (Hendrix, Zappa pour le feedback, Gambale, Scott Henderson, John Abercrombie...)!!

Voilà un guitariste hors du commun...!!! J'ai le Jeff Beck Group, There And Back, Beck Bogert Appice, Guitar Shop et Crazy Legs. Je pense que je ne vais pas tarder à me procuere Jeff qui me semble trés aventureux...

Jeff Beck fait partie des artistes intronisés samedi dernier au Rock and Roll Hall of Fame à Cleveland. Comme de coutume, un discours d’intronisation était là pour présenter le légendaire guitariste. Ce discours était dit par son ex collège des Yardbirds Jimmy Page qui a notamment expliqué que Beck était le soliste le plus incroyable de notre époque. Ils ont ensuite joué ensemble le "Beck's Bolero" et le titre "The Immigrant Song" de Led Zeppelin.

On sent un regain d'activité chez El Becko . Nouvel album intitulé
Emotion & Commotion après 7 ans sans avoir sorti quoi que ce soit en termes de
nouveaux morceaux. Il sera accompagné d'un orchestre de 64 musiciens.

Jeff Beck returns with an eclectic mix of tracks that find the guitar
virtuoso accompanied by a handpicked cast of talented musicians, as
well as several songs accompanied by a 64-piece orchestra. Rhino
unleashes the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer s restless genius with
EMOTION & COMMOTION.
Beck recorded EMOTION & COMMOTION late
last year at Sarm Studios in London with award-winning producers Steve
Lipson and Trevor Horn. To create the album s diverse sound, Beck used
a number of musicians, including appearances by frequent collaborators
Vinnie Colaiuta (drums), Jason Rebello (keyboards), and Tal Wilkenfeld
(bass). The album also includes contributions from a trio of singers:
Imelda May ('Lilac Wine'), Olivia Safe ('Elegy For Dunkirk'), and
Grammy-winner Joss Stone ('I Put A Spell On You' and 'There s No Other
Me').
To complement the innovative tones he coaxes from his guitar,
Beck recorded with a 64-piece orchestra on songs that range from
Puccini s immortal aria 'Nessun Dorma' and Elegy For Dunkirk from the
film Atonement to 'Somewhere Over The Rainbow' from The Wizard Of Oz
and Jeff Buckley s interpretation of 'Corpus Christi Carol.'
Beck
says the idea of pairing his guitar with an orchestra evolved from the
version of Gustav Mahler s Symphony No. 5 he recorded a few years ago.
'It turned out amazingly well, but I didn t want to commit to an entire
album of classical music. What appealed to me instead was the idea of
bringing together these seemingly contradictory sounds on different
kinds of nonclassical music.'
In addition to the orchestral pieces,
EMOTION & COMMOTION showcases a number of original compositions.
For 'Hammerhead,' Beck fires the rocker s opening salvo through his
wah-wah pedal before falling into a deep groove carved out by the
rhythm section and horn arrangement. At the opposite end of the sonic
spectrum, the airy arrangement that elevates 'Never Alone' provides a
wide-angle soundscape for Beck s imagination to freely explore the
high-flying melody.

le prochain album devrait etre du rap bal musette avec wah wah et fuzz à gogo!!

Je connais très peu la musique de Beck mais hier en zappant, je suis tombé sur un de ses concerts récents sur une chaine ( ID-concert ou un truc comme ça). J'avoue que je suis resté devant pendant 3 ou 4 morceaux. C'était plaisant même si le style joué n'est pas spécialement ma tasse de thé. Je suis resté dessus parce que ce type, hors du temps et hors des modes, ne joue jamais de notes en trop. C'est ce qui m'a marqué. Il joue sans en rajouter. Y a pas 356 notes par secondes mais chaque note sonne. Ca change de beaucoup de Guitar Hero qui en rajoute et en mette partout. On sent le mec extrèmement sûr de lui en tant que musicien. J'ai mieux compris pourquoi Beck a une place à part dans l'histoire du Rock.

Jeff Beck et Rod Stewart projettent de faire un album ensemble :

Jeff Beck and Rod Stewart will make a new album together – and Classic Rock has the exclusive on what’s going on!

Jeff confirmed to Classic Rock that the two old buddies would renew a partnership that first saw light in the late 1960s when the two rock gods were working on Truth and Beck-Ola and were scheduled to perform at Woodstock, a plan that never materialised when the Jeff Beck Group disbanded on the eve of the festival.

The idea broke as a rumour when Rod mentioned that the two men had enjoyed a convivial meeting just before Christmas but when Classic Rock spoke to Jeff he put a great deal more meat on that bone.

“Something has been on the cards for a while,” he says. “There have been rumblings in the studio, and yes I have done some demos for him and with him. This happened after our lunch liaison in Los Angeles, but just as matters were proceeding his new baby came along and completely screwed up the whole thing.”

An exhilarated and clearly jokey Jeff continues: “I thought,’ Rod why don’t you just put it away! Leave her (his partner Penny Lancaster gave birth to son Aiden on February 17) to get on with it! She’s used to it mate, you don’t need to be there’. It’s her second child. Why not leave it at that, then? How many more miracles does he want!

“Seriously, I put in a lot of effort over the week we were together in the studio. We’ve co-written 11 tracks and I’ve suggested what might be a good starting point, and so hopefully we can come to an exciting agreement as to what to do with all this stuff. We’ve agreed on something together, a beginning for the project. At the same time I’m seeing him today (February 24) for a further chat. I’m into the idea but I’m going to shoot myself in the foot aren’t I? Bbecause everyone’s going to be wanting this reunion and not my next album. One will obviously overshadow the other, and after the reaction and great response to my 2010 record Emotion & Commotion it seems a bit of a shame to suddenly go left field over the other thing.

“But I know people won’t have been having their tongues hanging out for 30 or 40 years or whatever, waiting for us to do it, or maybe they will be? And then of course it makes no sense not to tour it, have to! Take it out on tour. It will be enjoyable anyway. We can do just a couple of Hollywood Bowls here and some Madison Square Gardens there and then there’s England. The O2 in London isn’t what I’d want. It’s too echoey. I’d much rather do three or four nights at the old Hammersmith Odeon (now Apollo). I want it to be right in your face and the sound has to be just right. The sound is my number one priority.

“Over our next lunch Rod and me will probably beat each other to death, but the fact remains he’s coming to see me and we are going over the material, all of it. I want to see that Rod is genuine into the idea and that it’s not just a weekend’s fancy. I don’t think it is because his manager (Arnold Stiefel) is well into it.”

Indeed Stiefel has recently offered the opinion that the new material, “Is mind-fucking stuff”. Beck concurs.

“It is good actually. Stage One was just agreeing that it was basically a good idea and then Stage Two was the actual collaboration and co-writing. Stage Three was me lending my studio in Los Angeles to Rod for the demos, to the tune of $17.000! So I’ll be expecting a cheque from Rod for that! But I’ve got two chances there! No chance and no flippin’ chance! But while he’s sitting there listening to the tracks I’ll sneak out and….nah I can’t say that!”

Details on the actual songs are still well under wraps. In 2004, the Jeff Beck Group reunited to play at the Royal Albert Hall with Ronnie Wood on bass, Rod at the mic and Jeff on guitar. They rehearsed a lot of classic material from their original albums and a couple of choice numbers like Rock My Plimsoul and I Ain’t Superstitious. And in 1985, Stewart guested on the Beck album Flash; the pair performed a cover of The Impressions’ People Get Ready.

“It sounded fucking brilliant,” Stewart recalled. But the concert was cancelled when Jeff phoned Rod and said he’d had a change of heart. Subsequently they did perform together in Los Angeles, and Beck caught the bug again. Now he has said that he “Would have to turn the clock back 20 or 30 years to match what Rod does, stylistically. Not that that is meant to be a derogatory statement. He loves the 60s. He loves blues he loves old stuff.” So no stretch for Beck there then.

We’ll have to wait and see what transpires regarding new material. Beck is keen to offer a modern twist on whatever the two men come up with, and the songs are bound to reflect both his single-minded desire, and Rod Stewart’s undoubted love for a belting old rocking blues tune.

Jadis membres du Jeff Beck Group dans les années 1960, les deux vétérans collaborent de nouveau, pour un nouvel album.

Un repas partagé par Rod Stewart et Jeff Beck un peu avant Noël 2010 semble avoir été la base de ce qui risque de s'avérer comme une collaboration très attendue entre les deux vétérans.

Jeff Beck a annoncé qu’il était « à San Francisco la semaine passée pour enregistrer ce que je pouvais avec mon batteur. Il ne manque plus qu’à ce que Rod Stewart ne vienne poser sa voix sur la bande pour que l’enregistrement soit terminé. »

La date de sortie n’a pas encore été dévoilée, une chose est certaine : nous sommes déjà impatients.
