Entièrement composé de reprises chères à Neil Young, sa particularité est d’avoir été enregistré dans un Voice-o-Graph de 1947 (celui de la boutique Third Man Store de Nashville), sorte de cabine téléphonique dans laquelle on s’installe pour graver des sons directement sur vinyle (d’une durée maximale d’environ deux minutes), lointain ancêtre de nos graveurs CD.

Premier extrait, découvrez Needle of Death, reprise d’un morceau du musicien folk écossais Bert Jansch, qui avait déjà inspiré Neil Young lorsqu’il écrivit sa chanson The Needle and the Damage Done (de l’album Harvest, paru en 1972)

Le 16 juin prochain, Young sortira un nouvel album, The Mosanto Years, accompagné par Promise of The Real, le groupe des 2 fils du chanteur country Willie Nelson.

Ce sera un album au ton engagé puisque comme son titre l'indique, le thème est l'entreprise de produits chimique tristement célèbre Mosanto.

Neil Young est actuellement occupé à finaliser les dernières touches à un nouvel album qui sortira en juin. Comme sur le précédent opus intitulé The Monsanto Years, Young fera équipe avec Promise Of The Real au sein duquel sévissent les fils de Willie Nelson, Micah et Lukas.

Dans le même temps, il sortira une comédie musicale intitulée Human Highway et Rust Never Sleeps enfin en DVD (22/4).

Neil Young says he is busy in the studio putting the final touches on a new album that will be released this June.

The follow-up to 2015’s “The Monsanto Years” once again sees Young teamed with Promise Of The Real, which features Willie Nelson’s sons Micah and Lukas.

"I'm very happy with what I'm doing," Young tells Rolling Stone. "I don't know what its place is in the world, but I like it. I feel really good and amped and energized. And I feel like I'm doing something that I've never done before. It's not just music. It's a soundscape. It's kind of like flying around listening to things with your eyes closed."

Young says the new recordings are both a continuation of what began with “The Monsanto Years” and a new creative path.

"In critical other ways, it's like nothing that I've done," he explains. "It's more like a giant radio show. It has no stops. The songs are too long for iTunes, thank God, so they won't be on iTunes. I'm making it available in the formats that can handle it.

"It's like a live show, but it's not like a live show. Imagine it's a live show where the audience is full of every living thing on earth — all of the animals and insects and amphibians and birds and everybody — we're all represented. And also they overtake the music once in a while and play the instruments. It's not conventional ... but it is based on live performance."

Ahead of the June release, Young will issue two rare films – the post-apocalyptic musical comedy “Human Highway” and the concert feature “Rust Never Sleeps” – for the first time on DVD on April 22.

j'avais été très déçu par les dernières prestations du Loner (trop répétitif, peut ou pas du tout inspiré) mais l'extrait mis en ligne est assez fabuleux.
