In 2015, Parkes Elvis Festival honours Australian rock legend, former Rose Tattoo frontman Angry Anderson.
Join Angry Anderson, Parkes Shire Mayor Cr Ken Keith, friends and dignitaries as we pay tribute to Angry’s stellar career and his tireless charity work.
Western Road Liners runs a shuttle bus service to this location. See bus schedule for further details.
Angry Anderson AM
Gary ‘Angry’ Anderson was born in Melbourne in 1947. Originally a factory fitter and turner by trade, Angry considered himself a blues guitarist until he found himself in a band with two other guitarists who he concedes were better than him. The band lacked a vocalist so, in his own words, “I just happened to be the best one at it.”
In the early Seventies Angry fronted Peace Power and Purity, but he came to prominence as the lead singer with Buster Brown. The original line-up included drummer Phil Rudd, who left the band in 1974 to join AC/DC. Buster Brown disbanded the following year shortly after releasing their first and only album, Something to Say.
After relocating to Sydney in 1976, Angry joined the newly formed Rose Tattoo, replacing the band’s original singer. Rose Tattoo’s most popular single was ‘Bad Boy for Love’ (1977), which peaked at number 19 on the Australian charts. Rose Tattoo recorded six studio albums before disbanding in 1987.
In 1987 Angry released his greatest hit, the ballad ‘Suddenly’, which was used as Scott and Charlene’s wedding theme in Neighbours. Ironically, ‘Suddenly’ was pipped for the number-one chart position in 1987 by Kylie Minogue’s first-ever single, the cover of the Sixties classic ‘Locomotion’.
Angry continued to record as a solo artist and his 1990 album Blood From Stone produced the hit ‘Bound for Glory’. In 1993 Rose Tattoo reformed temporarily to support Guns’N’Roses on the Australian leg of their Use Your Illusion tour, before reconvening again in 1998 for their own Australian tour. In 2006 Rose Tattoo was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame. In 2012 it was announced Rose Tattoo was once again disbanding.
Angry’s career as an actor began with a minor role in Bullamakanka (1984) before his memorable turn as Ironbar Bassey in Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome (1985). In 1992 he appeared in the arena-style spectacle Jesus Christ Superstar as Herod. He has also appeared in the comedy series Fat Pizza, Pizza and Housos among other television shows.
During the Eighties, Angry established himself as a popular commentator on social issues on The Midday Show with Ray Martin and A Current Affair. In 1993 Angry was made a Member of the Order of Australia in recognition of his work in youth advocacy. From 1994 Angry has organised Challenges, completing the work of various charities’ projects with media support. Challenges have been diverse, including assisting drought-affected farmers with reserve feed for stock and delivering artificial limbs to Cambodian landmine victims. Angry has organised and participated in many charity concerts. In 2013 and 2014 Angry led The Big Ride 4 Parkinson’s, a charity motorbike ride from Sydney to Parkes for Parkinson’s. Following the deaths of five of his Rose Tattoo bandmates from cancer, Angry also advocates on men’s health issues.
In 2011, Angry was preselected as the Nationals candidate for the Division of Throsby in NSW under his birth name Gary Anderson. Despite not winning, his preference votes helped the Coalition with a 4% swing in the seat.
Angry Anderson has four children and lives in Sydney.

Tu l'as, ce DVD ?

As the band Rose Tattoo are coming to an end after an amazing 39 years fans are left wanting more. A DVD Box Set would be a great tribute to Rose Tattoo. A band that helped shape the sound of Australian Music in the 1970’s. As previously seen in the recent ‘Blood + Thunder: The Sound Of Alberts’ documentary shown on the ABC. “They played so loud the world listened” – ABC iView.
The fans have expressed what they would like to have in the Box Set. That is to see the Rose Tattoo Documentary made by Lucy Desoto that Screened at the 2008 Melbourne International Film Festival to an enthusiastic crowd. Along side old footage of the band and old film clips.
Arthur Mulloy (Creator of Change.org petition) along with Rachel Baxter (Rose Tattoo social media manager / Merchandise Girl) and Alex Green, Werner Poeschl (creators of Rose Tattoo Fan Group) are combining forces and getting the word to Albert’s Music that The Rose Tattoo fans want more in the form of a DVD Box Set.
“This would be a great tribute to a band that didn't get the real recognition that it deserved as the best Australian band ever and this band has a place in Australia's history and played a big part in shaping the Australian music industry.” – Arthur Mulloy
“There are thousands of Rose Tattoo fans that don't want to see them end.
If the feedback we have received is anything to go by, there are fans as young as 16 years old signing the petition along side the dedicated fans that have followed Rose Tattoo for almost 40 years.” – Rachel Baxter Please Albert Music. Please release a Rose Tattoo Box Set DVD. This would make a great 40th year celebration presentation.

"AnonymousJuly 26, 2015 at 11:04 AM
Apparently the Aztec Music release of the lost Rose Tattoo album has been pushed back to coincide with the bands 40th anniversary next year. There's also a campaign afoot to get Alberts to release a retrospective Tatts DVD."
