Nouvel album intitulé Last Of A Dying Breed prévu le 21 août :

LAST OF A DYING BREED TO BE RELEASED AUGUST 21, 2012; LYNYRD SKYNYRD’S FIRST STUDIO ALBUM SINCE GOD & GUNS

BASSIST JOHNNY COLT, ORIGINAL MEMBER OF THE BLACK CROWES, JOINS LYNYRD SKYNYRD

NEW YORK, NY (May 2, 2012) - Loud & Proud/Roadrunner Records announced today the release of Last Of A Dying Breed from Lynyrd Skynyrd, the band’s first studio album since the September 29, 2009 release of God & Guns which debuted at #18 on the Billboard Top 20 and gave the band their highest debut since 1977. Last Of A Dying Breed reunites the band with producer Bob Marlette who produced God & Guns.

“It was great to get back in the studio with Bob for this new album,” said Gary Rossington “we kind of went back old school this time. All of us playing together in the studio as a band, tracking songs and creating licks. We had a lot of fun and the music really flowed for us, so that’s when you know you are on to something good. We can’t wait to let the fans hear these songs and play ‘em live.”

Led by core members Gary Rossington (guitar), Johnny Van Zant (vocals) and Rickey Medlocke (guitar), along with longtime drummer Michael Cartellone, Lynyrd Skynyrd have recorded an album that continues the tremendous legacy that began over 35 years ago in Jacksonville, Florida, a legacy that was halted for a decade after the 1977 plane crash that killed three band members, including Ronnie Van Zant and Steve Gaines. Since then, the band tragically lost Billy Powell, Ean Evans, Allen Collins, Leon Wilkeson and Huey Thomasson, yet they rock on.

Joining Lynyrd Skynyrd will be bass player Johnny Colt, an original member of the Black Crowes who has also played with Train and Rockstar Supernova. When asked about receiving a phone call from Rickey Medlocke on behalf of Lynyrd Skynyrd to join the band, Johnny said, “What else do you say to Medlocke, Rossington and Van Zant? We’re talking southern rock royalty. We’re talking Lynyrd Skynyrd. The only thing out of my mouth was when and where!”

With a catalog of over 60 albums, sales beyond 30 million worldwide and their beloved classic American rock anthem “Sweet Home Alabama” having over two million downloaded ringtones, Rock & Roll Hall of Famers Lynyrd Skynyrd remains a cultural icon that appeals to all generations.

Le groupe sortira donc un nouvel album intitulé Last Of A Dyin' Breed, le 17 septembre. Celui-ci fera l'objet d'un fan-pack chez Classic Rock le 28 août.

The band's brand new album will come out as a special Classic Rock Magazine edition

The album is out on August 28 in an exclusive Classic Rock Fanpack which contains the studio album, LAST OF A DYIN' BREED, plus bonus tracks, alongside a specially created magazine with exclusive behind-the-scenes content put together by Classic Rock.

The Fanpack format will also come with a pin badge and artwork poster

The standard physical release of the Skynyrd album in the UK will follow three weeks later on September 17.

Sympa, même si un peu poussif par moment... Le père Medlocke n'apporte plus cette folie "blackfootienne" qui l'animait dans le passé...

Personnellement Medlocke na rien a foutre dans Lynyrd Skynyrd .

Je suis d'accord avec toi... il apporterait beaucoup plus à la Southern Rock hors Lynyrd Skynyrd...

Les fans viennent de réagir vivement à l'annonce du groupe selon laquelle le drapeau confédéré n'apparaitrait plus scène. On sait pertinemment qu'il fait partie intégrante du merchandising du groupe. Gary Rossington, le seul membre historique du groupe, vient de confier à CNN que le combo reconnaît que ce drapeau peut revêtir une connotation raciale et non raciste (précisons-le), drapeau qui, il faut le rappeler, fut le signe de ralliement du Général Lee et de ses hommes pendant la Guerre de Sécession. Gary Rossington poursuit son raisonnement en affirmant que des organisations telles que le K.K.K (Ku Klux Klan qui prône une Amérique blanche pour des Blancs) ou même certains skinheads, ont galvaudé le véritable message et l'héritage des soldats confédérés.

Legendary Southern rockers Lynyrd Skynyrd have angered some fans by announcing that they will stop using the confederate flag, which for much of their career had been featured prominently on their stages, logos, t-shirts and other tour merchandise.

The band’s lone original member, guitarist Gary Rossington, recently told CNN that the group does recognize the racial divide that comes with the flag, which was flown by the confederacy of 11 southern “slave” states who seceded from America during the Civil War.

As he explained, “Through the years, people like the KKK and skinheads kinda kidnapped the Dixie or Southern flag from its tradition and the heritage of the soldiers. That’s what it’s all about. We didn’t want that to go to our fans or show the image like we agreed with any of the race stuff or any of the bad things.”

However, not all fans agree with this decision. A number of them criticized the group on the CNN message board. One hit out at the band for just erasing the imagery altogether rather than attempting to educate their fans. It was also suggested repeatedly that by removing the Confederate imagery, the group was alienating a segment of their audience — those who identified with the band’s longtime embrace of all things southern.

Another commenter simply altered a Skynyrd lyric, explaining, “Well I hope Lynyrd Skynyrd will remember, a Southern man don’t need THEM around anyhow.”

Les concerts de Biloxi du 15 et 16 février ont été annulés suite à l'hospitalisation de Gary Rossington pour une infection abdominale.

En 1987, eut le lieu le Tribute Tour de Lynyrd Skynyrd qui se solda par une reformation substantielle du groupe. Une fois terminée, cette tournée donna lieu à ce double live d'excellente facture. On y retrouve une bonne partie des membres encore vivants à l'époque dont le fabuleux et talentueux Ed King, Billy Powell aujourd'hui parti naviguer vers d'autres cieux, Gary Rossington, un des piliers du groupe et Artimus Pyle. Il y a également des invités qui sont venus se joindre à la fête. Sont conviés Charlie Daniels qui s'illustre de fort belle façon sur Call Me The Breeze, Steve Morse qui massacre littéralement Gimme Back My Bullets avec ses solos à la con, Jeff Carlisi, Donnie Van Zant de 38 Special, Johnny Van Zant (qui reprend le micro de Ronnie). On passe un excellent moment car les versions proposées sont honnêtes sans pour autant équivaloir celles de One More From The Road, le double live enregistré en juillet 1976 au Fox Theatre d'Atlanta. L'instant le plus émouvant est bien évidemment lorsque le public de Dallas interprète seul Free Bird. Un vibrant hommage à ceux et celles qui avaient tragiquement disparu dans ce terrible crash du 20 octobre 1977.

Les princes du Rock Sudiste LYNYRD SKYNYRD se voient offrir une bien belle sortie pour leurs fans préférés puisqu’une boîte Vinyle regroupant des pépites de 73 – 77 va voir le jour incessamment sous peu.

J' avais fait les deux concerts de l' Elysée Montmartre en 92, monumental!
